Health passport
The SHI Health Passport

The SHI Health Passport is the result of what was developed with the support of the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (DBU). Thereby it is possible for the building contractor and the end customer and investor to agree upon a contract which regulates the indoor air quality, independently from the building method and type of building while using the standard building materials. This concept was further elaborated in collaboration with numerous academic research institutions, legal, building and environmental health professionals and in 2009 it led to the publication of this certificate, which contains the recommended values of various institutions.
If the investor decides to make the SHI Health Passport a component of the sales contract, for the first time he possesses a qualifiable, legally enforceable instrument, which defines the health-related requirements for the building and makes them testable.
Conversely, the Health Passport represents a guideline, towards which the building contractor can orient his operation method and the building products he uses for it.
With regard to the limiting values, SHI Health Passport follows recommendations of "Umweltbundesamt" or short "UBA" (the German Federal Environment Agency), of the World Health Organization WHO, the orientational values of "Arbeitsgemeinschaft ökologischer Forschungsinstitute e.V." or "AGÖF" (Association of Ecological Research Institutes e.V.) and of many other institutions.
The criteria of the SHI Health Passport are available here. They are constantly adjusted, whenever new findings about health consequences or new measuring methods are being published.
