Sentinel-Haus Institut
Concepts for healthy housing environments
The word “sentinel” derives from a Middle English word, meaning “guard”. A sentinel was assigned to protect the community against intruders, if they were soldiers, conquerors, or pest-infected people, by keeping watch on a tower or outside town.
Sentinel-Haus® Institut (SHI) is intended to represent the sentinel of a building who protects it against unwanted pollutants or building damages. Like a structural engineer guarantees that the house does not collapse, SHI stands for the innocuousness of the indoor air.
Sentinel–Haus® Institut has got the following aims on its agenda:
- Healthy housing constructing as a long-term investment in comfort and health
- Introduction of affordable standards in the sector of healthy housing constructing
- Legal security and quality assurance for healthy living housing concepts to the advantage of the consumers and building professionals
Sentinel-Haus® Institut trains building contractors and planners in the development of buildings with the highest health demands.
The Sentinel-Haus® Concept offers a transparent and reliable support to building contractors and planners for quality assurance in healthy and cosy living environments with regard to both solid and timber construction methods.
The Sentinel-Haus® Concept assures the optimal quality of the indoor air with contractually stipulated target values (among others chemical and biological contaminants, electro-smog, radon) for people who are healthy and for people with a special demand for health quality in living environments.
The knowledge was developed together with contractors, planners and investors with the support of the » Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (DBU).
